When we hear the term sustainable, we automatically think environmental. But, I think, there's more to it than that.
In Fall of 2015, the Richmond Nursery constructed new greenhouses at 5740 Old Richmond Road, the corner of Richmond Road and Fallowfield Road. The Strawberry Farm and Greenhouse are now together at the same location.
We always hear talk on the news about the effects of global warming and what we can do about it. There are lots of comments on what industry should do to reduce greenhouse gasses, but what can we as individuals do?
I don't think any industry is at the mercy of Mother Nature more than agriculture, and we've suffered our share or blows.
As a grower of both greenhouse and outdoor crops, there are many challenges we face and decisions we make on how to best deal with pests. We have always tried to use as many biological controls in our greenhouse, though not always with a welcome reception.
We've been home-growing plants locally for decades. It's only fair we help give back to our community in some way. One way we do this is through fund-raising programs for community organizations, non-proft groups, or other worthy causes.
As a Greenhouse and Field Grower, we don't really talk about green initiatives. So what have we done to be more green?
